Special envoy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the State of Libya, Amb. Babagana Kingibe arrived in Libya on Saturday 5th August 2023 to deliver message of President Tinubu to his Libyan counterpart, President Mohammed Yunus Al-Menfi on the political situation in the Republic of Niger and the decision of ECOWAS while counting on the support of Libya. On arrival, Amb. Kingibe was received at the Mitiga international airport by Amb. Kabiru Musa, Chargé D’affaires En Titre and the Director of Protocol, host Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the same day Amb. Babagana Kingibe briefed President Al-Menfi on the contents of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s letter which sought the support of Libya in exerting necessary pressure on the military junta in Niger to restore constitutional order. Nigeria recognizes the strategic importance of Niger’s neighbours especially non-ECOWAS members namely Algeria, Chad and Libya that could play vital role in resolving Niger’s debacle. Nigeria maintains its policy of good neighbourliness and has strong reservations about the use of force against the military junta in Niger. The three non-ECOWAS members (Algeria, Chad and Libya) are about to set up a joint initiative geared towards resolving the conflict.
